ISNA Approves Of Meeting With DHS Secretary; U.S. Muslim Brotherhood Likely In Attendance

Posted By GlobalMB On February 4, 2010 @ 4:00 pm In Daily | No Comments

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) has expressed its approval of a meeting held last week between “Muslim, Arab, Sikh and South Asian American community leaders” and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. According to an ISNA press release [1]:

In a meeting with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano yesterday to discuss joint efforts against domestic violent extremists, Muslim, Arab, Sikh and South Asian American community leaders welcomed commitments by the Secretary to promote meaningful, positive and authentic dialogue. Leaders from national and local organizations representing these communities expressed concern about DHS policies, such as racial, ethnic, and religious profiling at airports and the border, that have eroded the government’s trust and credibility with the communities. The commitments Secretary Napolitano made to these community leaders include:

-Community participation in an anti-violent extremism task force of the Homeland Security Advisory Council, which reports to the Secretary

-Regular, quarterly meetings with the Secretary;

-Education and training for DHS leadership to promote understanding of the Muslim, Arab, Sikh & South Asian American communities and their concerns; and-

-An honest and full discussion of legitimate grievances from members of these communities about DHS policies that are ineffective and have a deleterious, humiliating impact on Muslim, Arab, Sikh and South Asian American communities.

Community leaders believe that fulfilling these commitments would be a step forward in establishing meaningful, open and authentic dialogue between DHS and the Muslim, Arab, Sikh and South Asian American communities. In addition, these leaders have called for changes to DHS policies that are ineffective and discriminate based on race, ethnicity or religion, including:

-Rescinding a new Transportation Security Administration (TSA) directive targeting travelers from or through 13 predominantly Muslim nations, plus Cuba.-

-Revising a TSA directive on religious headwear, such as turbans and headscarves.-Setting limits on interrogations and searches by Customs and Border Protection agents that probe an American’s faith, politics, finances or associations, as well as cell phones, laptops and electronic devices, without any evidence of wrongdoing.

Although it is not confirmed, the press release contains a list of media contacts including leaders from ISNA, the Muslim Public Affair Council (MPAC) and the Muslim American Society (MAS) suggesting that the Muslim “community leaders” were in fact representatives of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.

A report [2] by the Hudson Institute has identified ISNA as a major part of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. The organization has a long history [3] of fundamentalism, anti-semitism, and support for terrorism and during the recent Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial, ISNA was named [4] as an unindicted co-conspirator. Although recently ISNA has issued condemnations [5] of terrorism which for the first time identify Hamas and Hezbollah by name, there is no indication that the organization has ever addressed or acknowledged its history.

MPAC was established initially in 1986 as the Political Action Committee of the Islamic Center of Southern California whose key leaders likely had their origins in the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. Since that time, MPAC has functioned as the political lobbying arm of the U.S. Brotherhood. MPAC has opposed virtually every count-terror initiative undertaken or proposed by the U.S. government. At times this opposition was said to be on civil-rights grounds but, just as often, MPAC claimed that U.S. counter-terror efforts were aimed at the U.S. Muslim community itself. MPAC has constructed and consistently espoused an elaborate ideology defending the use of violence by Islamists and Islamist organizations.

The MAS was identified in the Hudson Institute report [6] as a part of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood and closely tied to the Egyptian organization. The organization is notable for its extensive grassroots organization and its ties [7] to far-left organizations.

ISNA Hosts U.S. Assistant Secretary of State

Posted By GlobalMB On October 19, 2010 @ 4:03 pm In Daily | No Comments

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) has reported that U.S. Assistant Secretary of State of Public Affairs Philip Crowley met local Islamic groups at the ISNA headquarters. to discuss US foreign policy. According to the report [1]:

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State of Public Affairs Philip Crowley met with representatives from all seven of the Indianapolis area masjids and Islamic community centers at ISNA Headquarters on the evening of Thursday October 7th. The Assistant Secretary attended a discussion on the Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus earlier that day and met later in the evening with the Muslim community. A retired Air Force Colonel who held senior positions in the White House and Pentagon during the Clinton administration, Philip Crowley was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of State for public affairs of the Obama Administration on May 26, 2009. Crowley’s main responsibility as Assistant Secretary is to ensure that public affairs informs public policy. From 7:30 to 10:30 PM, just under 30 local Muslim community leaders from the greater Indianapolis area met with Assistant Secretary Crowley at ISNA, where he discussed and answered questions on U.S. foreign policy. He focused on current strategies in the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and current U.S. involvement in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Sudan.

It appears now that the Obama administration is actively courting ISNA. As a previous post [2] reported, ISNA officials have recently with Hillary Clinton and the National Security Advisor

As documented in a Hudson Institute report [3], ISNA grew directly out of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. The organization has a long history [4] of fundamentalism, anti-semitism, and support for terrorism and during the recent Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial, ISNA was named [5] as an unindicted co-conspirator as a result of what the government called [6] “ISNA’s and NAIT’s intimate relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood, the Palestine Committee, and the defendants in this case.” Although it is true that recently ISNA has issued condemnations [7] of terrorism which for the first time identify Hamas and Hezbollah by name, there is no indication that the organization has ever addressed or acknowledged its history of support for terrorism. Also, as the Hudson Institute report observes, almost all of the ISNA founders remain active in the organization and ISNA maintains close relations with all other components of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.

A previous post [8] discussed the ties between the ISNA Secretary-General, a former leader of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Chicago chapter, and an Illinois school with close links to the Mosque Foundation, itself tied to fundraising for Hamas.

ISNA Meets With White House National Security Official

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) has announced that it has facilitated a meeting with the Assistant to the President on National Security for homeland security and counter terrorism. According to the announcement [1]:

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) facilitated a meeting with John Brennan, Assistant to the President on National Security for homeland security and counter terrorism. The meeting was intended to start a dialogue between government officials and Muslim American leaders to explore issues of national security, including the important role the Muslim American community plays to thwart security threats and improve the deteriorating relationships with Muslim countries. The meeting, organized by the White House under the title “A Dialogue on Our Nation’s Security,” was co-sponsored by the Islamic Center at New York University, the Islamic Law Students Association at NYU, and the White House Office of Public Engagement. The dialogue was held on Saturday, February 13, 11 a.m., at the School of Law, New York University.

At the meeting, Dr. Mattson identified [2] what she called four major threats to the existence and identity of the Muslim American community:

1. Like all other Americans, we are vulnerable to terrorist attacks on the US. Al- Qaeda and other terrorists consider us at best, collateral damage, at worst, apostates and collaborators. Across the world, Muslims have suffered at the hands of al-Qaeda more than anyone else. For this reason, if no other, Muslim Americans want law enforcement to be effective in protecting all of us against terrorist acts.

2. The cult-like tactics of terrorist recruiters to entice our youth to their ideology and mission. We do not want to lose our children to a revolutionary fantasy in religious guise.

3. Hate-speech and attacks from a conglomeration of religious bigots, racists, political ideologues and xenophobes. We do not want to be alienated and stigmatized in our own country, and we look to our political leaders to set a responsible tone.

4. Government actions that impinge on the freedom of our community to organize, to freely express our religious values and to engage in the lawful advocacy of our positions. We need the freedom to build an ethical, productive community of faithful American Muslims – something we cannot do if we have to fritter away our resources defending ourselves against bogus charges.

A report [3] by the Hudson Institute has identified ISNA as a major part of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. The organization has a long history [4] of fundamentalism, anti-semitism, and support for terrorism and during the recent Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial, ISNA was named [5] as an unindicted co-conspirator. Although recently ISNA has issued condemnations [6] of terrorism which for the first time identify Hamas and Hezbollah by name, there is no indication that the organization has ever addressed or acknowledged its history. ISNA and its leaders have frequently labeled [7] any criticism of the organization to be “Muslim bashing.” Louay Safi, the author of the ISNA announcement, was recently suspended [8] from his job as a military trainer at Fort Hood according to the Dallas Morning News.

BREAKING NEWS: New ISNA Secretary-General Has Extensive Ties To U.S. Muslim Brotherhood

[1]The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) has announced the appointment of Safaa Zarzour as its new secretary general. According to the ISNA announcement [2]:

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) announces the appointment of Safaa Zarzour as its new secretary general. Mr. Zarzour will move to his new office in Plainfield, IN, from Bridgeview, IL, early next week. Mr. Zarzour is a lawyer and educator, and has outstanding contributions to integrate Islamic communities and institutions to mainstream American society. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University School of Law and a Masters in Education from the University of Illinois in Chicago. He practiced law in Illinois and is also a passionate educator. He has served as an adjunct professor at Loyola Law School teaching courses in Education and Islamic Law. For over a decade, he served as a teacher and then principal at Universal School, one of the largest PreK-12 independent Islamic schools in the United States. Mr. Zarzour is active in interfaith circles. He is a member of the Board of Advisors of the Bernadine Center at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago where he serves along with distinguished faith leaders from the Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities. He has participated for several years in the Mid-Atlantic Muslim-Catholic Dialogue….Mr. Zarzour is a well known civic leader in Chicago’s Southwest Suburb. He has served in various capacities in his town, including as an administrative coordinator, Zoning Commissioner, and an elected trustee of the Bridgeview Public Library. Over the last 15 years, Mr. Zarzour helped establish and has served on the boards of a variety of local community and advocacy organizations. His civic and educational work has been featured in many media including 60 Minutes, PBS Front Line, Chicago Tribune, Time Magazine and many others. Mr. Zarzour has received several honors and awards for his public service. Most recently, Chicago’s Mayor Richard Daley handed him the Chicago Commission on Human Relations’ 2009 Outstanding Service Award.

The ISNA announcement fails to identify Mr. Zazour’s extensive ties to the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood which a Hudson Institute report [3] says includes ISNA as a major component. For example, Mr. Zazour is a board member [4] and President of the Chicago chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR.) Investigative research [5] posted on GMBDR has determined that CAIR had it origins in the U.S. Hamas infrastructure and documents [6] released in the Holy Land Trial have revealed that the founders and current leaders of CAIR were part of the Palestine Committee of the Muslim Brotherhood as well as identifying the organization itself as being another part of the U.S. Brotherhood. A recent post [7] discussed an interview with the Deputy leader of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood in which he confirms a relationship between his organization and CAIR.

Mr. Zazour’s CAIR biography also identifies him as a board member and former principal of the Universal School, located in Bridgeview Illinois and which has strong ties to the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. Bassam Osman is listed [8] on the school website as a director and as a “Representative of NAIT.” The Hudson Institute report identifies Mr. Osman as a U.S. Muslim Brotherhood leader and NAIT (North American Islamic Trust), as a part of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), holding title to many U.S. mosques and Islamic facilities associated with the U.S. Brotherhood. It should also be noted that ISNA President Ingrid Mattson, another NAIT Trustee [9], also served [10] on the Board of Directors of the Universal School where she also taught Islamic Studies at the high school level.

A Time Magazine article [11] reports that although the Universal School is located next door to the Bridgeview Mosque, the school asserts its independence from the mosque which a 2004 Chicago Tribune investigative report [12] had associated with Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. However, the Tribune investigation showed clear links from the Bridgeview mosque to organizations associated with Universal School board members: ·

  • The Tribune reported that the mosque had been deeded to NAIT in 1981 by Islamic fundamentalists who had taken over the mosque from its former leaders. As noted above, NAIT is part of ISNA and another school board member is also an ISNA board member.
  • The Tribune investigation went on to report that in 1985, Jordanian Sheikh Jamal Said became the new mosque prayer leader, replacing Ahmed Zaki Hammad who later became the President of ISNA. Sheikh Said was reported to have been inspired by the Muslim Brotherhood, educated at a Saudi Arabian University, and noted for his sermons espousing strict Islamic fundamentalist views and critical of America as “a land of disbelievers.”
  • Mosque leaders were also leaders of the Quranic Literacy Institute, and the Islamic Association for Palestine, the predecessor of the Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR). As noted above, school board members are also affiliated or had been tied to the QLI and CAIR.

As much as $1 million a year was raised from mosque members which was then sent to overseas Muslim charities. The mosque donated money to three Islamic charities that have since been identified as involved in financing terrorism—the Holy Land Foundation, Benevolence International, and the Global Relief Foundation. One of the mosque’s eight-member executive committee was Muhammad Salah, a Muslim Brotherhood member who was arrested in Israel in 1993 and has since been identified as a Hamas military commander.

ISNA itself has a long history [13] of fundamentalism, anti-semitism, and support for terrorism and during the recent Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial, ISNA was named [14] as an unindicted co-conspirator.

BREAKING NEWS: FBI Assistant Director Reported To Have Met With ISNA Vice-President

A number of blogs and media outlets are reporting on a letter said to be authored by a knowledgeable source who says that the FBI Executive Assistant Director was to meet yesterday with the Vice-President of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) following the official decision by the FBI to use ISNA as ” their official point of contact with the American Muslim community”:

Today, FBI Executive Assistant Director Tom Harrington is meeting at FBIHQ with Imam Majid of the ADAMS Center in Sterling,VA. Imam Majid is also the Vice-President of the Islamic Society of North America – a known Muslim Brotherhood entity and un-indicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Trial in Dallas in which all defendants were found guilty of leading the Hamas front group. This was the largest terrorism financing trial in the history of the United States. This meeting today follows yesterday’s official decision by FBIHQ to use ISNA as their official point of contact with the American Muslim community. ISNA is one of the largest and most prominent Muslim Brotherhood entities in the US. The Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 with two objectives (which are their same two objectives today): implement Islamic Law and re-establish the global Islamic Caliphate. Their creed, which is still their creed today, includes “…martyrdom in the way of Allah is our highest inspiration.” We know that Assistant US attorneys are not going forward with prosecutions because it is “politically problematic.” And now agents and attorneys aware of this decision believe it obligates them to violate US law by forcing them to work with a front group for a designated terrorist group (Hamas). It is worth reminding you all that the Hamas Covenant states Hamas is a Muslim Brotherhood entity, and that Hamas is a designated terrorist organization by the US government. I strongly encourage you all to notify your state and federal elected officials and push them to call for the strongest possible action against the FBI, to include the removal of all senior FBI officials who approved this decision.

The Investigative Project is also reporting that they have confirmed that the meeting did indeed take place.

A report by the Hudson Institute has identified ISNA as a major part of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. ISNA has a long history of fundamentalism, anti-semitism, and support for terrorism and during the recent Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial, ISNA was named as an unindicted co-conspirator. Although recently ISNA has issued condemnations of terrorism which for the first time identify Hamas and Hezbollah by name, there is no indication that the organization has ever addressed or acknowledged its history. ISNA has made ongoing attempts to form a coalition with elements of the U.S. Jewish community.

In late January of this year, the FBI severed all formal contact with the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR)over the organizations ties to Hamas.
