State Department Promotes Meeting Between CAIR and the OIC

The website of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) is reporting [1] that its Michigan chapter has met with representatives from the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). The meetings were said to be coordinated by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and held at locations in the Detroit area. According to the CAIR report:

OIC representatives inquired into the demographics of the Detroit Muslim community, religious programs of local mosques and interfaith activities. The representatives also discussed the organization’s efforts to confront Islamophobia as well as its analysis and intervention in the current humanitarian crisis in Darfur, Sudan.

This meeting between CAIR and the OIC, if in fact promoted by the State Department, takes on particular significance in light of President Bush’s decision [2] to appoint an envoy to the OIC.
