From CAN:

The Associated Press reports that a fourth person in San Diego in a month has been arrested for allegedly planning to support al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group in Somalia.  is accused of trying to raise money for the organization.

Authorities are particularly concerned about al-Shabaab because of its proven ability to recruit Westerners, especially Somali-Americans. The AP reports that 19 people in Minnesota have been charged with conspiring to assist the group. Nearly 20 Somali-Americans began disappearing from the Minnesota area in 2008, one of which became the first American to carry out a suicide bombing.

In June, one of the writers for the high-profile American extremist website, RevolutionMuslim.com, was arrested for trying to go to Somalia to link up with al-Shabaab.

On September 16, the Financial Times reported that the director of the United Kingdom’s MI5 intelligence service, Jonathan Evans, compared Somalia to Afghanistan under the Taliban. Evans confirmed that British residents have gone to the East African country to join al-Shabaab, saying “tens [had gone], but [the number] might amount to more than 100 within one or two years.”

“I am concerned that it is only a matter of time before we see terrorism on our streets inspired by those who are today fighting alongside al-Shabaab,”Evans said.
